A Soleful November

November Inspiration
CONFESSION....I have the hardest time selecting shoes to complete an outfit.  Shoes are the last thing I select, and more often then not, I gravitate towards a safe, neutral pump.  Two weekends ago, I started searching the major department stores in hopes of finding a pair of riding boots, no luck.  It prompted me to look inside my closet, and look at what I currently own.  I counted...75 total pairs.  Then I counted the most frequently worn, 18 for the whole year!  Next month, I am going to challenge myself to build my looks based on these 8 pairs of shoes I recently bought and rediscovered in my closet.

sam edelman roza
NEW!  Sam Edelman
Two weekends ago, I kicked off my boot search at TJMaxx, and this is what I returned home with.  The boot shaft flew off on my way home, and what I lost in material I gained in heel height.  Just kidding....  When I came across the Sam Edelman Roza Pumps for $80, I had to get them, a classic black pump with spikes and rhinestones?  Totally my style!

kelsi dagger jaxen
NEW!  Kelsi Dagger
During part II of my riding boot search this weekend, I came across the Kelsi Dagger Jaxen boot.  I was tempted into buy these because I can convert it into 2 looks.  The upper is leather, gray is a neutral, and they were only $25 at Burlington Coat Factory!  Currently, they're $86 on Amazon, in tan, gray, and brown.

dolce & gabbana leopard
Dolce & Gabbana  (Similar from Rachel Roy)
I bought these Dolce & Gabbana leopard pumps over a year ago.  I've worn them once in an outfit post, and that's.pretty.much.....it.  I somehow manage to "forget," that I own these because I am terrified of ruining the calf hair and the fabulous leopard printed sole.  I spent good money on these shoes and they really need to see the light of day rather than be kept in a shrine.

Charles David (Similar)
One of my favorite shoe designers is Charles David.  I think their workmanship is excellent, and the price is reasonable.  I bought these boots over 4 years ago, yet they've been worn less than 10 times.  I am not sure why but I've only worn them with leggings in outfit posts.  I need to try pairing them with skinny jeans or a skirt. Does anyone wear skinny jeans tucked into heeled boots?  Until I find riding boots, I may as well try it!

I've only worn these Sole Society pumps in 2 outfit posts.  With oxblood/burgandy/merlot being the haute colour of the season, you'd think I'd wear these ALL the time?  But no, I never think to add burgandy shoes to an outfit!

Enzo Angiolini
I got these pumps for a bargain on Piperlime...$30, end of Winter clearance.  I've worn them once in a blog post.  Again, I plead the fifth as to why these shoes haven't been worn more frequently?  Now that I think of it, did I need to buy those Sam Edelmans, both shoes have a black/silver motif??

charles david adriz
Charles by Charles David
I really love these moto boots I purchased for Fall, but looking at photos, they've only been worn under slacks or with skinny jeans.  I should try wearing these with a skirt or a dress...

I have a love hate relationship with suede because it is the least practical material you can purchase living in Chicago due to its delicate nature.  Suede attracts dirt, and a water stain is an eyesore.  On the flip side, I think these olive green peep-toe booties could make an outfit look really cool.  I've worn these for 1 outfit post!

Do you struggle with picking shoes?  Any tips if you don't??

  3. I love shoes, these are great. I can never find ones that I adore though, I end up not liking them after a while or they hurt my feet and get tossed in the closet.

  4. Those spiked heels are something fierce! I would rock those often. This will be a fun challenge for you working outfits around these shoes. You have a good variety to work with. I am the opposite, I build a lot of my outfits around my shoes, lol! Heather

  7. Bessie - you've got some gorgeous shoes that begs to be used!!!! I've got I think about 150 pair of shoes and I am pretty much guilty of the same thing. Can't wait to see how you wear these :)

  8. I love the Sam Edelman's and tried on the taupe version a few months ago. Unfortunately, I was between sizes. The Dolce & Gabbana peep-toes are amazing. I build my outfits around my shoes, so it's my clothes that tend to get repeated more often than not!

  9. Ok I'm totally in love with those green peep toe booties. If you don't want them I'll gladly take them off your hands and wear them to death :) Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

  12. Most shoes here are lovely, the studded heels, I don't really get. Not only I think they don't look flattering almost on anyone but also the look like panty's worst nightmare. I wouldn't like walking on those : /

  13. Oh I never struggled with shoes... :) They are my little loves. However, the main reason why I don't struggle is because I think of the ways I'll wear them before I make a purchase, so by the time they end up in my wardrobe I already have at least 3 different outfits planned for each new pair. :)
There is only one exception here - my wedding sandals. They are crystal and don't get worn often enough simply because they are an evening type. Shame, really.

  14. Ok,I'm almost certain that the line that reads "I counted...75 total pairs" was supposed to end with several exclamation points. Also, those Edelman pumps are super bad ass. And the Dolce pumps, are those pony hair?! Love! I don't have much of a shoe collection, so the decision is never too difficult.

  15. Actually, I don't. It's mainly since I have huge amount of shoes (not expensive ones at all, but pretty ones all of them). I just take some shoes that go with outfit (or with red heel, if you have a neutral outfit, you can never go wrong with red heels). Mainly it's the colour I look when making choise.

  16. Those Sam Edelman shoes are SO freaking cool! Oh and hello shoe twin because I have a pair of Zanottis that look just like your Dolce & Gabbana pair (Italians copying each other?) and similar Coach boots.
I have really practiced restraint with my shoe buying and stick to my wardrobe shopping list. I still have a few pairs of shoes I'm looking for, but won't buy them if they're not a style that won't go with the rest of my wardrobe.

  39. LOVE the shoes Bessie. I always need a little platform with the heel - for working it's too much to tough to wear otherwise. I like the D&G pumps! They are perfect to wear with a solid color. Those Kelsi Dagger boots are a great buy and look really comfy.

  51. Are you serious? You got those hot Sam Edelman pumps from TJ Maxx??? Holy shit, that's amazing. I'll stop drooling now. Uber jelly over here! Since I had nothing to do today during hurricane Sandy, I window shopped online and bought some AT pumps... my third pair, and I don't even need it =(

What I really need are some black suede booties, cognac leather riding boots, and everyday flats! But I'm so darn picky that I can't seem to find the perfect ones and that are also affordable.

  52. These are some amazing shoes! Love the D&G peeptoes! I love shoes-I have wayy too many pairs, but my only tip is buy good brands-because if you decide they're not for you, you can sell good brands on ebay really easily for close to retail value!

  53. Wow 75 pairs, that's impressive. I actually tend to choose my shoes first when putting on an outfit. The footwear has to relate to the conditions that they will be used in. I find clothing much more versatile but it's the shoe that has to work first. That being said, I probably only wear one or two pairs constantly on rotation. I love those leopard pumps, yes you definitely need to feature them more!

  55. You have an amazing collection just from the peek of these eight pairs! I also struggle sometimes picking my shoes, because I tend to go back to my usual ones even when I know that I should be wearing more of the rest of the shoes in my closet. And I also have some that I have worn once or twice, or just for a few hours! I think it's a great idea that you've decided to commit to wear these eight lovely pairs, can't wait to see how you style them!

  64. These are sunning! And 75 is a lot to choose from. I also get into this habit of falling back on the same 6-7 , maybe 8 pairs. And sometimes I do think of an outfit before I buy a air of shoes. But mostly I go for shoes that I think would make a statement. Yours definitely do! They rock!

    ReplyDelete
  65. 75 pairs?! Wow! I can't wait to see your outfits around those 8 shoes though. Look at those spikes! And the platform heels. Sexy :). Can't wait to see! Lucky, or unlucky, for me, I'm boring and only have black and brown shoes, so no difficulty here ;).

  66. I must say this is a great selection! One thing I noticed about the Sam Edleman's personally is that the spikes and rhinestones don't seem to be the highest quality/ secured well. They are awesome to look at though but just like you said about the calf hair ones.. I'd be afraid to ruin them. I've never been to a shoe repair shop but I wonder if they could tell you how much it would cost to fix the calf hair on the DGs if they did get ruined... might be worth it since they are so expensive! Anyways I love the merlot ones, I think you could wear them with a lot because the style of the shoe is simple. As for the taller boots I definitely vote for them to be worn with skinnies/ dresses/ skirts!
Rambling over. Love this post! It's an awesome challenge!

  67. Would wear them all but the moto boots...omg, I'd kill for those! Great buys, very lovely, I got myself a pair of wedge heeled booties...and I've been loving them! ^^
