My closet is bursting at the seams and I have nobody to blame except for myself.  Denim shirts made a comeback last year, and I quickly realized their versatility.  I discovered a chambray version on sale for $15 at Old Navy.  My size was sold out so I bought the next one up.  I liked the rinse, and the price seemed too good to pass up.  The truth is, I hardly ever wear that shirt because it's too big.  I know quality and fit should rank higher on my priority list versus price, but I'm guilty of buying something just because it's on sale.  When I came across this denim shirt from H&M a few weeks ago, it was exactly what I was looking for.  Actual denim, snap closures, tailored fit, and shockingly it was only $20!  Now, I have two denim shirts, along with "2 variations," of an item that I could have avoided if I shopped more patiently.  It's time to stop passing the buck that retailers are tempting me with their prices, and exercise some self control...

  11. Ha ha, I've done the same thing on more than one occasion! Actually, I did the same thing with a chambray top! I bought one at Old Navy, but the material is too thick. I knew that when I bought it but still did it. Now, I've been looking for a thinner version. This top does fit you perfectly, and it is a perfect match for those fabulous pants!

  37. Personally, I've always felt that denim shirts never go out of style!! I do the same thing when shopping, as long as it's on sale, I will, as Tim Gunn says, 'make it work'. Because of my petite frame I feel like I'm usually spending more on tailoring than I do on the actual clothes, so I always try to find the perfect fit. However, when it comes to a button up shirt, I like them a little bigger. I find the larger ones are cozy in the winter, but also look really cute when you tie the front, which I do in the spring. But I have both sizes in each.
    This outfit is really great, and I love those pants. If I had seen them on their own in the store, I probably wouldn't have picked them up, but seeing how you paired them with the shirt and the shoes, I have a completely different attitude towards the bold print! Great post, Bessie!

  42. I love those pants! I'm not a big fan of printed pants but those are quite adorable. And I still don't own a chambray shirt, but I've seen it styled in so many fabulous way that I think it would be hard to pass if I saw one. Your arm candy is pretty fantastic too!

  62. i have learned, with time, that i would much rather spend more money on a full priced more expensive item that fits better than an item on sale. it's hard though when something is on sale and i like it but it's not my size. i did that once with a final sale dress. i even ordered a size up. ugh. anyhow, i haven't worn it. but i do love this chambray top - i love snaps with the chambray - and these photos are great. i love how you always take photos in the city

  72. I love the pants and that triangle bracelet! Finding clothing that actually had darts or a shape more than a rectangle is getting very difficult these days since I am not straight up and down. I actually just got the name of a good tailor and am going to start taking things there slowly so I can stop hiding the oddly shaped things under cardigans. BCBG is one of the few places where most shirts come with darts.

    It's funny you say Escada left Chicago since I have no idea what they sell, I tried to look them up but they had such a difficult to navigate website. Perhaps that is some of their problem?

And you are definitely right that sometimes we need to think about quality and fit vs price because if you never wear it, then it's not worth it. Your cost-to-wear ratio is infinity! But if you wear the $20 H&M shirt just once, like you did, the ratio is already down to $20 ;). I'm a geek. PS You have so many comments that my hand is sore from all the scrolling ;).   106. Like my son would say: Yadda, yadda!!! Self control? You? Didn't we have this conversation some time back about not shopping? And since I read ahead about the two sequin skirts... uhum!... really?
    I suggest that you give up this fruitless quest and just wallow in shoppingdom cuz it's gonna happen, like it or not... The fall season just has WAY too many goodies! Just got these great pants myself and cannot wait to wear them out! The lady in the next dressing room to mine saw me checking these out in the mirror and assured me to go ahead and buy them because "they look great on you" and also "everyone is going to be wearing this Prada-like print"... who am I to say nay?
    So come on! Take a trip to L.A. so we can shop together!

  110. I have been wanting a denim shirt forever (since I saw Lauren Conrad wear one with liquid leggings). Found one at H&M earlier this year, it was from their Divided line, the color was perfect however the fit was a little to snug. Still on the hunt...& goodness, I never pass up a "sale", then I come home, I am like, what did I just buy? But I bet the Old Navy one will look good with liquid leggings, or just with leggings in general, since its lose fitting.
    You make me wanna shop, I think I need printed pants now.
