Comment: Could you do a post about your bags? You said you have a small army of them. (Anna, Very Thrifty Business)
It's no secret that I love handbags, to date I own 31! I've said time and time again that handbags are the ultimate accessory in elevating the status of any outfit. Conversely, a poorly selected handbag will ruin any outfit, click here to see. I am not a handbag snob, but it needs to be well constructed, leather, or canvas with leather trim. To pique your interest I am going to show you some of my favorites.
Classic Everyday: Louis Vuitton Epi Speedy 25 in Black
This is the bag that many of you comment and tell me you dream of owning someday! I bought it last summer for $1,000 after Louis Vuitton halted price increases for 2 years due to the lackluster economy. Usually LV raises its prices 2x a year, January and June. As soon as there were signs of an economic recovery, prices were increased to make up for lost time, this bag is now $1,200, a 20% increase within 1 year.
Pop of Colour: Gucci Calfskin Hobo in Classic Red
If you want a handbag with a pop of colour that will stand the test of time, get it in RED! Pick any shade, tomato, cherry, burgundy, invest in it, take care of it, and years later you will still LOVE IT! I purchased this in Fall 2007 for $1,200, can you tell it is almost 4 years old? It provides the perfect accent to any simple outfit, and the gold Gucci horsebit accent is something you simply can't miss, yet its not obnoxious!
Anything but Black or Brown: Ferregammo Satchel in Olive
When I want a bag that isn't black or brown to add colour to a neutral outfit I select my Olive Green Satchel. This bag matches any outfit and the pebble leather is durable and scratch resistant! What I love is that it is simple and understated. Unless you really know your luxury brands, you will have to identify this bag by spotting the Salvatore Ferregammo horseshoe zipper pulls! I got lucky and found this at the Ferregammo outlet in 2008 for $389, it was originally $1,150.
Evening Show Stopper: Swarovski Crystal Minaudiere
A true handbag aficionado's collection should have a swarovski crystal minaudiere. When I attend corporate functions, black tie events, or a fancy dinner this little number makes an appearance. Can you imagine the show stopping factor it adds to any simple evening gown? I suggest adding something like this as you progress into your career and you have formal occasions to attend. This is an investment piece that very few people will ever have!
Something New: Miu Miu Crossbody Bag
My Mom recently gave this to me from her collection! Now are you convinced she is one stylish lady? She purchased this at Barney's of New York in 2001, I think she's carried it 5x. She gifted this to me last week so that I can put it to good use...and boy am I ready to this out for a spin! This is bag #31, Thank you Mom! The craftsmanship on this bag is amazing...it is hard framed with wood on the inside! This is just a sneak peak, once we hit Fall...you'll see it in my posts!
Ultimate Budget Bag: Perlina Hobo $79
Yup, you read it right, $79 was what I paid and yes, it is leather! This bag is amazing in quality and style, and the leather is so soft...it's like butter! I found it at Marshall's right before I started Bravoe Runway and it was just the perfect Spring and Summer handbag. I don't use it often because of the light colour but with 30 other bags to rotate I am good ;)
How I store my handbags:
All of my bags are stuffed with tissue when not in use to retain their shape. They rest in their sleeper bags, away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity!

amazing bags, love it! ♥

Drooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I've been wondering about this post and was going to ask you again to share your gorgeous bags. The Ferragamo is such a steal- I can't believe you paid so little for it! I actually only own three bags- two were a gift from the BF and another from my mom. Yep, I'm really that sad. I'm looking forward to the day I can buy myself a Miu Miu satchel. One thing I'm unlikely to own is a Chanel- those monsters increase the prices above and beyond what's acceptable so even if I can afford it I won't. Gabrielle Chanel was a practical woman, so I bet she's rolling over in her grave now over the skyrocketing prices.
I'm new to bags...i'm one of those culprits who spent my entire life so far in backbacks, nylon bags, and fanny packs, haha....so I'm trying to learn how to buy purses...especially timeless ones. Thanks for sharing yours! It gives me something to think about when buying purses.
ReplyDeleteI so do love your bag collection :) I really like your tips on storing the bags as well to preserve their shape and keeping them away from elements for their longevity. I'm so envious!!

Wooooow, that's the paradise of bags! 31 bags, unbelievable! Are they all of the same quality as these you have shown us? I don't really have many bags, as I'm still a student, what I mainly need are big shoulderbags to carry my books, etc. For other occassions, I have a few bags, but nothing of good quality, all plastic and canvas. Someday I'll save enough money for a good leather bag!

Your Gucci bag is gorgeous! You have some wonderful bags. The crossbody bag is a fabulous addition to your collection. Yah for stylish moms!
ReplyDeleteI have a Coach bag that I get out for special occasions. Someday I would love to own a LV bag or a Birkin bag. That's wishful thinking on my end though :)

Owww... Very nice collection you've got there. I love handbags, too. And shoes. And dresses. Hahaha! But I don't own such impressive rainbow of designer names like you, mostly they are from bargain brands. Few designer pieces that I have were either gifts or 'stolen' from my Mom's closet. ^__^
ReplyDeleteI really like that your blog posts professional working outfit. I don't see it a lot out there. Totally can relate because I'm a working girl myself. I may not want to be in fashion industry like you, but it sure does make my day much more interesting and un-boring! Pleassssse, more posts of fun and not-so-boring wroking outfits!

omgoodness! i love this post! u have impeccable taste my dear friend! how do you care for the leather ones? I have the hardest time with my super soft B. makowski leather its mustartd and shows all! HELP?
ReplyDeleteI usually suggest spraying something to protect your leather bag once you purchase it, something like Kiwi's all fabric and leather spray. I also use leather lotion from Cole-Haan to moisturize the bag. If you have a bag with stains already, send it to Avelle.com, they have a cleaning and restoration service that will return the bag to you in new condition!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by! If I had to select between high priced handbags or shoes I'd pick handbags. They'll stand the test of time and shoes wear out much faster. I like to show a variety of different styles of clothing from casual to cocktail wear as that is really how my life is. Sometimes I need to be professional, other times I can just wear whatever I want. I'll post more fun professional outfits!
ReplyDeleteOooo a shopping trip with you would be fun! One day...I'll make a visit to Italy :)
ReplyDeleteYou will own the LV bag someday! I bought one for my Mom for Mother's day one year :) Miss M and K can join in together :)
ReplyDeleteHi Olyvia! Thank you for stopping by and handbags are definitely worth the investment. Take care of it, rotate, and you'll use it for years to come!
ReplyDeleteI knew you'd love this posting! I definitely keep the stuffing in the bags so that they'll retain their shape and the leather prevents itself from wrinkling.
ReplyDeleteDrooling......my dream bag that I hope to purchase in the near future is aLouis Vuitton Monogram Neverfull GM!!!! I want it in my life ASAP!
ReplyDeleteThey are just fabulous. When can I come over and play in your closet? LOL
ReplyDeleteGosh, I can't decide which one I love the most! You have fab taste my dear girl!
